Island
Peak 6189m - 22 days -
(18 days Island Peak 6189m & 4 days in Kathmandu)
The
most popular trekking peak, Island Peak, or Imja Tse,
is also one of the most stunning. From the approach
route and summit you can look on to some of the most
interesting peaks of the Khumbu – Ama Dablam, Baruntse,
Makalu, Lhotse, and Nuptse, among others. Island Peak,
which was first summitted by a British team including
Tenzing Norgay in preparation for Everest in 1953,
gets its name from the fact that on the way in to base
camp, it looks like an island in a sea of ice. It
isn't a very challenging peak technically, but it is
high, dominating the chain of cliffs it is part of
south of Everest. You need to be prepared for snow and
ice, sometimes a lot of it.
