The
best of both valleys without tackling Ganja La, which
is high and can be difficult. Instead,
you experience both Buddhist and Hindu-tinged culture,
and see villages at once prosperous adn remote. You
walk through lush forests with langur monkeys and red
pandas and rhododendron, as well spruce alpine
valleys. You'll see many Tibetan and Sherpa-type
people, but also Newars from Kathmandu Valley. There
will be monasteries, cairns, bridges, yak pastures,
and cheese factories. The holy lake of Gosainkunda
(4,380 m) is revered by all and during the August full
moon, hundreds of pilgrims make their way to it to
sing, dance, bathe, and renew their faith.
