Nestled in the remoteness of the Rolwaling Valley,
Parchermo is a splendid example of a classic Himalayan
peak. Access to it is over the challenging Trolambau
glacier (5,600 m) and the extreme Tashi Lapcha pass
(5,755 m). You'll encounter crevasses, rock- and
icefalls, and shattering seracs all around. Luckily,
the sharp, well-defined north-northwest ridge of the
mountain itself poses relatively few problems, though
depending on the weather crevasses can be an issue.
First climbed in 1955, the peak was later closed until
the late 80s due to the danger posed by the pass to
ill-equipped porters. Since then trekking companies as
well as climbers and trekkers have become far more
responsible and conscientious

Program |
|
Day 01 |
You will be picked up by
our representative from airport and transfer to
the hotel. |
|
Day 02 |
Free day
in Kathmandu, night at hotel |
| |
|
Day 03 |
Fly from Kathmandu to the remarkable short landing
and take-off airstrip in Lukla (2,850 m). Get a
good start by getting up to Phakding. Walk past a
gomba (Buddhist monastery) set high into a rock
face, a mani wall, through forest, and over a
couple of bridges to reach Phakding (2,640 m). |
|
Day
04 |
Namche Bazar (3,420 m), the bustling district
headquarters. |
|
Day
05 |
Khumjung (3,780 m), the largest in Khumbu,
complete with the school and health post run by
Sir Edmund Hillary's Himalayan Trust. Continue |
|
Day
06 |
Tengboche (3,860 m) is the cultural and spiritual
centre of Khumbu. Ask to find out more about the
village and its justly famous gomba. The forests
are still full of birch, pines, and rhododendrons. |
|
Day
07 |
Pheriche (4,243 m), you see more large mountains
dominate your line of vision, including the
enormous Lhotse-Nuptse wall and Ama Dablam. |
|
Day
08 |
Lobuche (4,940 m). |
|
Day
09 |
Gorak Shep (5,160 m) at the foot of Kala Pattar.
The ascent of Kala Pattar - both summits (5,550 m
and 5,600 m) - brings you to the viewpoint
everyone interested in mountains dreams of
reaching sometime in their lives. After gaping at
the panorama of Everest in its full oversize
three-dimensional glory you'll descend pst massive
seracs back to Lobuche. |
|
Day
10 |
Dzongla (4,850 m), an old pastureland. |
|
Day
11 |
Crossing the challenging challenging Cho La (5,420
m) involves an extended glacier walk, together
with some knife-edge ridges and steep, slippery
patches of thin ice. The going is much easier
after that, with easier saddle walks, stream
traverses, and little pastures scattered around
until you reach Gokyo (4,750 m). |
|
Day
12 |
Climb up Gokyo Ri (peak, 5,340 m), but it is worth
every minute - and every strained muscle. The
reward is feeling like you truly are far above the
world, with the strange and utterly delightful
feeling of floating in a large balloon of intense
blues, whites, greys, and browns. |
|
Day
13 |
Today is a long day, clambering over, down, and
around large, trickily smooth stones and scree
slopes and then the scary edge of the glacier over
Renjo La (5,417 m) down a similarly exciting path
to reach Lungdeng |
|
Day
14 |
A rugged day's walk brings you to Thengpo (4,350
m). |
|
Day
15 |
Tashi Phug-. |
|
Day
16 |
Similarly extreme terrain brings you to the 5,755
m Tashi Lapcha pass, with prayer flags and
spectacular views all around, including of
Parchermo (6,187 m). The ascent to Parchermo
(6,187 m) is through snow slopes, the occasional
ice step, and over some crevasses. From Langtang
to Everest and Cho Oyu, you really do look onto a
'best of' Himalayan vista, well worth the climb.
Descend the same way to camp below the pass at
5,200 m. |
|
Day
17 |
This is a built in security day in case the
weather foils your summit bid on day 14. |
|
Day
18 |
Used by now to high altitude and very challenging
trails, or lack thereof, today will be a breeze to
get down to Thame (3,750 m), a major village on
the trade route between Nepal and Tibet, with yak
caravans filling its wide positively oasis-like
valley. |
|
