We at Tin-Tin Trekking understand that not everyone has the
same expectations or desires from their trip abroad. Or,
that while people want to go overseas, they don't
necessarily want to be too far from the metropolis. In light
of this, we also undertake to organise all manner of
unconventional trips to Nepal. Some recommendations we have
include:
1. Nepali Family for Seniors: If you're a senior
citizen and want a change of scene and pace, we recommend a
taste of a culture where the elderly are given the space,
respect and consideration that is their due as people with
real life experience. We can arrange for you to stay in one
of Kathmandu's international standard serviced apartments
with a Nepali family coming in to give you company and help
you out. They will pamper you and do fun activities with
you; everything from food and grocery shopping, sightseeing,
introducing you to their friends and social circle, if you
wish, and going on short, unstrenuous trips around Kathmandu
Valley.
2. Language Courses: Kathmandu is a veritable South
Asian hub for expats involved with business, volunteer work,
the UN and other international non-profits who live in the
region, as well as writers, artists, and people from
neighbouring countries. The great advantage of this is that
it is now home to a number of excellent language instructors
who have for years been teaching (usually Westerners, as
well as Japanese, Korean, and Chinese people) Nepali, Newari,
Tibetan, Hindi. More recently a number of expats have
started taking up teaching others their own language -
English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, among
others. The cosmopolitan atmosphere means that you
constantly run into people who speak one or the other of
these languages, whether they are long-stay residents,
travellers, or dharma students, and can always practise.
3. Research Support: Our vast network of friends and
associates includes people from all walks of life, and if
you wish to conduct a research project on anything from
health, development, art, music, journalism, ethnic issues -
really, just about anything - we can help organise this too.
4. Artists' Retreat: Kathmandu has for decades been a
source of immense inspiration to artists from all over the
world. It's a combination of the seminal art in its 'living
museums' that are filled with brilliant, definitive works of
architecture, sculpture, statuary, and painting, and a
thriving contemporary artists' scene. We know many people
who have prepared entire exhibitions while based in
Kathmandu, and not just art that is overtly Asian-inspired,
but all genres. So we already roughly know what you're
after. We're happy to arrange short- or long-term retreats.
5. Culinary Explorations: Kathmandu is home to a rich
range of sophisticated and simple ethnic and regional
cuisine that it's easy to fall in love with. There are also
people here passionate and knowledgeable about this culinary
heritage. So it's a great place to come if you want to learn
all about any of these cuisines, and how to prepare them:
Nepali, Newari, Tibetan, Indian, and Szechuan Chinese in
particular.
6. Volunteer projects: The spirit of volunteerism is
valued here, and there are many many respected empowerment,
health, literacy, and other development projects,
particularly non-governmental ones, that always need people.
If you think this is a worthwhile thing for you to do, we're
happy to arrange a position as well as living and other
logistical details.
7. Serviced Non Serviced Apartments: If you have any
other reason at all for wanting to spend time in Kathmandu,
we can fix you up with a serviced non serviced apartment and
any other facilities you may need,
Other Custom Tours: If you have any other sort of
custom tour in mind in not just Nepal, but also Bhutan,
India, or Tibet, do let us know, and we'd be happy to
organise it for you.
